I heard the same thing about J. I do think it's awfully convenient that everyone says they could've gone home if they wanted, but we don't know of anyone who actually *has* left. I guess if they had, we wouldn't still be seeing them around, but there's no proof yet.

She also didn't say whether she had proof her daughter was doing well - whether her daughter ever sent postcards, or if the House ever gave her proof she was still alive. I don't mean to assume the worst, but I want to consider all possibilities.

She said she thought she understood the House pretty well, though, for whatever that's worth.

If they can't pick and choose, I'm not sure how we're getting in. Not voluntarily, that's for sure!

And it seems to me they've done a pretty good job of collecting bigwigs. I've met 2 princes, 2 high-ranking government officials, a lord, an immortal ghost king, 2 idols, 2 other celebrities, some nobles, some powerful mages, and a god since coming here. That's not exactly what you'd call a normal sample of people, is it?

You're right about our treatment, though. Having high status in the real world doesn't mean you'll have high status here. I've met royals who were given low ranks.

Anyway, I'm not really sure what counts. I know my fate in the real world was forever changed by some of the people I met, but I wouldn't say the same thing's happened here. And just going to bed with someone certainly isn't "fate-changing." If anything, the way they've set up that game seems counterproductive, since the act would start to lose all intimacy thanks to repetition. Both parties don't even have to enjoy themselves, let alone share an emotional moment.

So, if you ask me, this whole place is set up rather poorly! Not that *that's* news.
