( a few moments later, after makoto has slowly pieced himself together after feeling the sword of damocles pass by neatly right over the top of his head: )
What do you mean, "a gift"? Like, from the resort, or were they originally...?
( had he killed them as well?? makoto is trying to imagine the scenario from his own perspective, but, well. he'd never really wanted to kill his own family, even though he'd hated them fiercely. but if J had just given him proof of their deaths...
honestly, he doesn't know how he would feel about it. )
If you'd already destroyed them, does that make their reappearance... um, unwanted? Are you going to destroy them again?
( this is a lot to unpack, though he supposes tomura himself has done a pretty good job doing so, considering how easily he shares it.
he pauses, reading the messages he'd been sent as well as going over the ones he'd sent to him one more time. then he sees how they could have been misconstrued; his own fault in asking in that way...! )
No, I wouldn't say that... And I wasn't asking to have it back or anything, if that's why you thought I was asking!! I was just wondering, like... If you'd already decided to destroy them once, would you make the same decision again?
[ sometimes you can state facts without unpacking how you feel about them😃🫠 ]
I destroyed them originally because the moment felt right it didn't feel like I needed them anymore well a lot of them got mangled cuz of a fight I was in anyway here, not sure if there's really a point and I can always get rid of them again if I get sick of having them around
( sometimes you bypass the unpacking process completely! 🙃 )
Yeah, that's true... It is pretty strange that they showed back up here, though.
Was... there a particular reason that you held onto them after your master gave them to you, though?
( he can think of plenty of reasons, sure. but not really having a full or clear picture of tomura's family situation, he doesn't want make any wild assumptions on his own. )
[ boy is there a twisty answer he could give about the amnesia and all, and he actually tries sorting that all out into a coherent message in his mind before scrapping it altogether. ]
the short version is that it also felt right way back then it was a tether during a time I couldn't really get the hang of everything going on and changing around me. once most of that got sorted out, losing them or destroying them didn't feel like such a big deal anymore.
( that makes sense to him. makoto doesn't really have anything from his original world, his original home, his original family... except, perhaps, the very last bit of his actual, physical body. even his name—he had thrown away his father's name, and even with his given name, he doesn't spell it with the kanji his parents picked out for him. he had been motivated in a way that was opposite tomura, really. getting rid of all of those things had felt so freeing, once he'd entered hell. he still doesn't feel any desire to see or hear anything about his family ever again... but doesn't that just make them a chain?
and then there's J. the only things he has attachment for are things he's given him. this body, that medallion with his initial on it... he still hasn't been able to get that back. does he even want to...? if he did, was that just giving the man back the leverage he'd previously had over him? )
That's probably a good thing, right? Now you can decide what to do with what you want to do with them for yourself, based on your own preferences and no one else's.

Okay, good. I'm glad.
( in another universe, he might have left it there, but,
they are not in that universe. )
So...
Do you mind if I ask what's the deal with the hand...s...?
( because there are apparently more than one?? )

what's left of them
[ and then a couple extra for the hell of it i guess. ]
they were a gift of sorts
[ hope that clarifies things! ]

from my sensei
I guess they're meant to be a memento of sorts.
I'd destroyed them before I came here though.
[ so seeing people find them all of a sudden... was very unexpected. ]

Your teacher gave you those??

the man who took me in after I killed my family.
[ if he's going to explain a little about his relationship to all for one, he doesn't see the point in beating around the bush about this part. ]
hm
'unwanted' as in I don't feel strongly about whether they're here or not
[ oh, right. ]
do you need this kind of stuff for something
[ demon things..? ]
